Adventures on Another Planet: Tofino Guide

I finally had the opportunity to explore Tofino for the first time, since a friend I've known since I was four years old has relocated there and shares the sweetest little apartment with her boyfriend.

I had been told by friends that this place was magical, but had low expectations since it is on the coast (the very tip actually), which, as a whole, has a reputation for grey, gloomy weather most of the time. Driving up the old narrow highway through windy turns, the surroundings became increasingly devoid of much civilization and buildings were replaced by Dr. Zeuss-like trees, roughed up from the tsunami open water zone.

Over the next few days, we walked different beaches (some so foggy that we could not see 10 feet in front of us), foraged for chanterelle mushrooms, gazed out at surfers, and explored the tiny town. There is definitely something special about this place. I can't wait to return.
